What exactly is Singapore-style "Daddy Tea"?
Based on a research article written by Zhou Wenpei in 2020 and multiple triangulations, the Hainanese did not have the habit of drinking coffee before the successful cultivation of coffee beans in Singapore. Since then Hainanese were influenced by the “Kopitiam culture” in Singapore. They brought back to their hometown this habit and the brewing techniques they learnt in the foreigner’s houses, creating the birth of 'Hainan Coffee'.
Through the speciality, Hainanese Coffee, “Daddy Tea” has become an indispensable culture for Hainanese in their leisure gatherings. The culture is also known as “Singapore-style Dad Tea” for it originated from the “Kopitiam culture” in Singapore
